It is CLS. It is Shooting Brake. And AMG.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake (X218)

CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake: The performance trendsetter
Affalterbach – Mercedes-AMG is once again demonstrating its qualities as a visionary, this time with the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake. The new AMG high-performance vehicle is the exciting enhancement of an innovative vehicle concept. As an attractive alternative for design-oriented car enthusiasts, the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake combines performance with style and usability in a completely new way. Synonymous with the dynamism which is typical of AMG are features such as the AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine with a power output range of from 386 kW (525 hp) to 410 kW (557 hp), the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission and the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension. The generous interior and luggage compartment with a volume of up to 1550 litres reveal the practical sides of the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake. In addition to attractive optional extras from the AMG Performance Studio to enhance the driving dynamics even further, another unique highlight is the designo wooden luggage compartment floor. And as a truly exceptional offering there is also the time-limited CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake "Edition 1" boasting an additional 24 kW (32 hp) of power and 100 Nm of torque as well as some particularly exclusive appointment features.

Mercedes-AMG is showing courage and with the new CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake is presenting a performance trendsetter in a new market segment. The CLS 55 AMG already had no direct competitors back in 2004. The first four-door performance Coupé inspired other automotive manufacturers and over the years has come to be copied many times. The successor model presented in 2006, the CLS 63 AMG with an AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine, and the current CLS 63 AMG with the 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine available since 2011, have consistently continued this strategy.

According to Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH: "After the successes of the CLS 55 AMG and CLS 63 AMG, with the new CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake we are consistently pursuing the philosophy of offering our customers unrivalled, exciting high-performance cars. The CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake is establishing a completely new, small and select niche sector, and is expected to delight new customers just as much as it will existing AMG enthusiasts. The combination of performance, style and usability is unique."

AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine producing up to 410 kW (557 hp)

The AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine impresses with a combination of direct petrol injection with spray-guided combustion, piezo injectors, biturbocharging, air/water intercooling, generator management and ECO start/stop function.

The eight-cylinder engine is the embodiment of pure dynamism and high efficiency: offering power output and torque levels of 386 kW (525 hp) and 700 Nm respectively, the effortless superiority of the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake can be enjoyed by the driver over every single kilometre. In conjunction with the Edition 1 these figures are pushed to 410 kW (557 hp) and 800 Nm. Both variants offer driving performance of the highest calibre: accelerating from zero to 100 km/h takes 4.4 and 4.3 seconds respectively, and the top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited).

Effortlessly superior power delivery, low fuel consumption

Despite offering dynamism similar to that of a sports car, the consumption figures are maintained at a low level. Fuel consumption of 10.1 litres per 100 kilometres (NEDC) corresponds to a CO2 output of 235 g/km and is identical for both power units. The driving experience in the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake is characterised by high levels of agility through all engine speed ranges. The absolutely effortlessly superior power delivery can also be heard by the driver too: the sports exhaust system with chrome twin tailpipes emits a sonorous eight-cylinder engine sound typical of AMG.
The key data at a glance:

AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission – individual and flexible

The AMG eight-cylinder engine is not the only highlight – the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission also boasts exciting levels of performance and efficiency. Equipped with four individual transmission modes as well as automatic double declutching and RACE START functions, its power delivery is characterised by responsiveness and maximum variability. In "Controlled Efficiency" (C) mode, the ECO start/stop function is always enabled and switches the eight-cylinder engine off when the vehicle is at a standstill. In "S" (Sport), "S+" (Sport plus) and "M" (Manual) transmission modes, the engine and transmission are significantly more responsive: short, precisely defined interruptions of ignition and injection result in faster gear changes under full load.

The suspension, steering and braking system of the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake complement the high-tech drive system perfectly. The AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension, with steel suspension struts on the front axle and air suspension struts on the rear axle, as well as automatic level control, is enhanced further by an electronically controlled damping system; it automatically adjusts the damping characteristics depending on the driving conditions and reduces the roll angle of the body. The effect of this is lightning-fast adjustment between optimum driving comfort and the best possible agility. The driver can switch between the three suspension modes of "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport plus" at the press of a button. The 3-stage -ESP® with SPORT Handling mode also enables three individual control strategies to be selected at the press of a button.

The AMG-specific front and rear axles with greater negative camber and optimised elastokinematics help to provide more stability at higher cornering speeds as well as better contact with the road. The front axle, with a track width which is 56 mm wider, is the optimum match for the electromechanical AMG sports parameter steering. It features a more direct ratio, variable power assistance which adapts according to the suspension mode, and also contributes towards reducing fuel consumption since the steering assistance system only draws power when the vehicle is actually being steered.

Optional AMG ceramic high-performance composite braking system
Perfect deceleration even when driving extremely briskly is provided by the AMG high-performance braking system with 360 mm ventilated and perforated brake discs all-round. Particularly resistant, motorsports-tested composite technology is used on the front axle. The optional AMG ceramic high-performance composite braking system with yet larger brake discs and specially painted brake callipers with "AMG Carbon Ceramic" lettering ensures an even higher level of braking performance as well as lower unsprung masses. Good contact with the road, meanwhile, comes courtesy of the titanium grey-painted, high-sheen AMG light-alloy wheels featuring a triple-spoke design and fitted with 255/35 R 19 tyres on the front and 285/30 R 19 tyres on the rear.

Distinctive, sporty and dominant: the sensational design

The excitingly elegant design idiom of a sensational vehicle design is combined in the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake with a distinctly sporty sense of dominance. Its high levels of performance are visibly expressed in such elements as the powerful AMG front apron with cross strut finished in high-gloss black, the AMG radiator grille with single slat and the AMG-specific design of the bonnet.

Further dynamic highlights also include the original, broader front wings with "V8 BITURBO" lettering, the AMG-specific rear apron with diffuser look and the AMG sports exhaust system with two chrome twin tailpipes. High-performance LED headlamps including Intelligent Light System and adaptive Highbeam Assist are fitted as standard.

Extensive appointments, exclusive atmosphere

From the quality of materials and workmanship through to the exclusive atmosphere, the interior of the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake meets the very highest of standards. AMG sports seats in nappa leather with multicontour seat and memory functions, AMG black piano lacquer trim and the AMG-specific analogue clock featuring an IWC design all help to create a unique aura. The driver is also kept perfectly and fully informed too thanks to the AMG instrument cluster with AMG main menu including RACETIMER and AMG start-up screen.

The transmission modes, suspension setup, ESP® functions and the AMG program can all be configured via the AMG DRIVE UNIT with E-SELECT selector lever – a special feature exclusive to AMG – which is integrated into the centre console and angled towards the driver. Visually striking, ergonomic and reassuringly tactile: the AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather features a three-spoke design with flattened top and bottom sections, a special shape, perforated leather finish and silver coloured aluminium shift paddles. A newly introduced feature on all AMG vehicles is the chrome-look electronic key with AMG emblem.

designo wooden luggage compartment floor in American cherry

A highlight among the extensive range of optional extras is the designo wooden luggage compartment floor. This luggage compartment floor is made of open-pore American cherry wood, a decorative fine wood traditionally used in superior interior design work, high-quality furniture and exclusive ship outfitting applications. Selected veneer sheets are glued and pressed together by hand in cross-bonded layers to achieve high dimensional stability. The blanks are milled into their precise shape using a CNC machine, and the surfaces sanded to a smooth finish, waterproofed and oiled to highlight the natural beauty of the wood.

Inlaid work using darker smoked oak, precisely cut into three millimetre strips using laser technology, helps to enhance the design of the wooden floor. The aluminium rails, manufactured using an extrusion moulding process, have a brushed finish as well as rubber inserts, and not only help to protect the wooden floor but also feature anti-slip properties.

Additional optional extras from designo include:
designo metallic paint finish available in three colours

Chevrolet Corvette Roars Into Its 60th Year

1953 Chevrolet Corvette - 29.6.2012 On June 30, 1953, the first of a new kind of Chevrolet - indeed, a new kind of American car - rolled off an assembly line in Flint, Mich. The car had only two seats. There were no roll-up windows, or exterior door handles, for that matter. Its body wasn't stamped from steel but, rather, molded from reinforced fiberglass.

While the postwar Baby Boom was in full swing, this was definitely not a family car. This was a very personal vehicle, one that promised a driver and a passenger all of the thrills of the open road.
1953 Chevrolet Corvette concept - 29.6.2012

However, 60 years later the Chevrolet Corvette survives - and thrives - as an American automotive and cultural icon.

"Through the years, Corvette certainly offered state-of-the-art features, designs, technologies and performance," said Tadge Juechter, vehicle chief engineer for Corvette. "However, I think what has made the Corvette such an enduring concept is the exciting experience of driving one.

"No matter what your station in life, when you're behind the wheel of a Corvette, you're an Olympic athlete - able to go faster, stop quicker, and turn better than everyone else," Juechter continued. "Very few cars can match that experience. And no other car has delivered that experience as well, or to more people, than the Corvette."

Barely five months before Tony Kleiber, a Flint plant body assembler, drove that first Chevrolet Corvette off the line and into automotive history, the icon in the making was little more than a designer's dream.

Corvette was first created under the code-name XP-122 to provide Americans with a glimpse of a European-style sports car designed for this side of the Atlantic. It was one of several concept cars unveiled in January, 1953 at the GM Motorama show in the ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.

With a world war not far behind them, people wanting a glimpse of the automotive future lined up around the block to view the new concept vehicles. At the Waldorf Astoria - and at every other Motorama stop across the country -- Chevrolet's sporty little roadster ignited many Americans' imaginations.

In fact, the Corvette was so popular that Chevrolet executives decided to thrust the two-seat roadster into production, albeit on a very limited basis.

Initial plans called for about 150 Corvettes, primarily to help draw potential customers into Chevrolet dealerships scattered across the U.S.'s then-48 states. Overwhelming demand doubled the first-year production to 300 units. The following year, the Corvette moved to a GM assembly facility in St. Louis, Mo., where 3,640 Corvettes were built for the 1954 model year.

Those first Corvettes sparked Americans' 60-year love affair with the Corvette. Since 1953, more than 1.5 million Corvettes have been built. Those cars have become synonymous with American performance - from cruising down Americana on Route 66 to taking the checkered flag at the world's most prestigious road race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

During the coming months, Chevrolet will kick some tires, open the hood, and climb behind the wheel to highlight 60 years of Corvette design, performance and technology milestones. We hope you enjoy the ride.

Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake: Independence at its most beautiful

Jun 29, 2012 -- Stuttgart. With the new CLS Shooting Brake, Mercedes-Benz is once again setting an example when it comes to creativity of design, and as such highlighting its leading role in this area: in terms of its proportions, the new CLS is quite clearly a coupé, but with five doors and a roof which continues through to the rear, it promises some remarkable new possibilities. The idea of the four-door coupé – successfully introduced in 2004 with the first CLS and long imitated in the meantime – has now been taken to new heights and to innovative effect. The result is automotive independence at its most beautiful.
According to CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche: "Any memorable machine is equal parts art and science. A car has to first deliver in function – the ticket of entry – and then in fascination: the ticket to real excitement. The CLS Shooting Brake excels on both accounts – unlike any other car in the market".

The proportions of the CLS Shooting Brake are surprising but clearly those of a coupé, and create a basic stance which makes it look ready for the off: the long bonnet, narrow-look windows with frameless side windows, and dynamic roof sloping back towards the rear. It is only when taking a second look that it becomes clear that the Shooting Break actually has five doors and offers "more" in terms of function.

In essence it represents an unprecedented version of a sports car with five seats and a large tailgate. It is a special proposition for people looking to differentiate themselves from the mainstream, and who do not wish to compromise on either sportiness or stowage space when it comes to travelling in style. The Shooting Brake is a further highlight in the innovative luxury vehicle series from Mercedes-Benz and, like the CLS Coupé, has the potential to become the role model for a new market segment.

"The CLS Shooting Brake is based on the great tradition of stylish sportiness which has always characterised Mercedes, and takes these unique icons an exciting step further", explains Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes‑Benz. "It stands for the enhanced design idiom of Mercedes-Benz which is oriented towards aesthetic, avant-garde principles". This is seen in the impressive series of market-defining new vehicle concepts, such as the SLK for example, which in 1996 established a genre as the first Roadster with a retractable steel roof, the M-Class as the first premium SUV in 1998, or the first four-door CLS Coupé in 2004.

Exclusive innovation in the interior: wooden luggage compartment floor

The second generation of the CLS set high standards in terms of the design and quality of the interior: straightforward elegance combined with innovative details and handcrafted perfection. The Shooting Brake also applies this same aspiration in the luggage compartment. It is lined with high-quality carpet, and the hand-stitched material is also incorporated into the sideliners in conjunction with leather appointments. Optional designer loading rails made of aluminium give an even more exclusive look.

An extravagant and unique feature for the automotive industry is the designo wooden luggage compartment floor, which serves to underscore the hand-finished nature of the interior. Cherry tree wood is a classic among fine wood species and contrasts perfectly with the inlaid smoked oak and aluminium rails. This affords the luggage compartment a touch of elegance normally found on yachts, combined with the exciting worlds of technology and precision craftsmanship. The wood is characterised by its flexibility and elasticity, as well as its density and fine texture. For the luggage compartment floor made of American cherry tree wood, selected veneer sheets are glued and pressed together by hand in five cross-bonded layers to achieve high dimensional stability. The blanks are milled into their precise shape using a CNC machine, and the surfaces sanded to a smooth finish and waterproofed to maintain the natural beauty of the wood. Inlaid work using darker smoked oak, precisely cut into three millimetre strips using laser technology, helps to enhance the design of the wooden floor. The lavishly produced aluminium rails have a brushed finish and rubber inserts, and not only help to protect the wooden floor but also feature anti-slip properties.

The CLS coupé already set new standards in interiors with its wide variety of individualisation options. The Shooting Brake also offers five interior colours, five trim designs and also three qualities of leather to choose from. Customers have a choice of three exclusive wood types: high-gloss brown burr walnut, high-gloss black ash and satin-finish light-brown poplar. The interior is given an even more progressive look with the addition of piano lacquer or AMG carbon fibre/black piano lacquer trim elements. A completely new addition comes in the form of porcelain interior appointments which afford both CLS models a sense of luxury normally found in the S-Class. The CLS Shooting Brake also lives up to its role as a design icon thanks to the innovative nature of the materials used. These comprise a mixture of satin and high-gloss finishes used on the metal surfaces.

A new dimension in vehicle concepts: the four-door Shooting Brake

No-one likes to have to compromise: even when the focus is not on the practical elements of the design of the Shooting Brake (length x width x height: 4956 x 1881 x 1413 mm), the new CLS model still has some trump cards up its sleeve. With a load volume of between 590 and 1550 litres, the luggage compartment offers a lot of room despite the flat, sporty lines of the roof, and is easy to use thanks to the automatically opening tailgate fitted as standard. A load compartment cover also protects luggage from prying eyes.

The standard air suspension at the rear helps to ensure optimum road holding at all times. For additional flexibility, the rear seat backrests can be folded down from the luggage compartment as standard. The rear seats themselves provide room for three people, with individual seats on the outsides and a third seat in the middle. The three saddle-type head restraints on the rear seats barely affect the view towards the rear, and can be lowered at the touch of a button by the driver. An optional trailer coupling is also available.

Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Board Member of Mercedes-Benz Cars responsible for Sales & Marketing, sums it all up: "The new CLS Shooting Brake represents a new dimension in vehicle concepts and offers discerning customers independence at its most beautiful."

Lightweight construction and aerodynamics: important contributions to efficiency

Intelligent lightweight construction plays a decisive role in bridging the classic conflict between the objectives of low weight and high strength in the CLS Shooting Brake. The model features frameless, all-aluminium doors made from deep-drawn aluminium panels with extruded sections, and in comparison with conventional steel doors, are some 24 kilograms lighter. The tailgate, bonnet, front wings, various support profiles and substantial parts of the suspension and engines are all made of aluminium too.

The aerodynamics also make a significant contribution to the efficiency of the Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake. With a frontal area of 2.30 m² and a Cd value of 0.29, the drag area is 0.67 m².

Drive system: powerful and efficient

The CLS Shooting Brake is available with four different engine variants – two diesel engines and two petrol engines. Features common to all engines include the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission as well as the ECO start/stop function. In addition, two models are available with all-wheel drive: the CLS 350 CDI 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY and the CLS 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY.

The entry-level model is the CLS 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY producing 150 kW (204 hp). Combined fuel consumption is 5.3 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres, an excellent level for this performance class and equivalent to CO2 emissions of 139 grams per kilometre. Coming in above this are the two six-cylinder models: the CLS 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY producing 195 kW (265 hp) and the CLS 350 BlueEFFICIENCY producing 225 kW (306 hp). The top-of-the-range model is the CLS 500 BlueEFFICIENCY with a V8 biturbo engine producing 300 kW (408 hp).

Efficiency is also increased by the standard electro-mechanical power steering EPS (Electric Power Steering). EPS is a radical move in the relationship between the driver, car and road surface. This is because for the first time, it gives engineers the freedom to choose and programme many of the parameters that influence steering feedback. So they defined a Mercedes-Benz feeling behind the wheel. In addition to fuel economy, the result is a considerable improvement in handling and agility. The electromechanical power steering also enables another innovation to be implemented – Active Park Assist. The CLS Shooting Brake is not only able to detect parking spaces, but can also park automatically.

Another world exclusive: dynamic full LED headlamps

The CLS was the first passenger car in the world to offer optional dynamic full LED High Performance headlamps, which combine the exciting colour elements of LED technology – similar to those of daytime driving lights – with the performance, functionality and energy efficiency of today's bi-xenon generation. Some 95 percent of all customers have opted for these lights in the CLS Coupé. Of course, as the world's second car to feature this optional extra, the CLS Shooting Brake also offers the new light system. For the first time ever, it provides the Intelligent Light System already proven in Mercedes models fitted with bi-xenon headlamps in combination with LED technology. The headlamps, with their 71 LED lamps in total, look exciting; and they serve to underline the unmistakable appearance of the CLS. The light specialists from Mercedes-Benz have for the first time been able to use LED technology in the innovative Adaptive Highbeam Assist, resulting in an entirely new quality of illumination when driving at night.

In contrast to the first vehicles equipped with LED headlamps, no compromises are now necessary with respect to the functionality and performance of the lighting technology. There are further arguments for LED-based lighting technology: the average operating life of an LED is around 10,000 hours, around five times longer than that of a xenon light; moreover, LED headlamps most closely approximate to the colour of daylight. This means that LED light is in keeping with the normal human perception patterns and that the driver experiences significantly more brightness on the road at night. Studies have shown that the closer the colour of artificial light comes to daylight, the less the strain on the eyes. With a colour temperature of 5500 kelvin, LED light is closer to daylight (6500 K) than xenon light (4200 K).

More than a dozen driving assistance systems help to prevent traffic accidents and reduce the severity of an accident. Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist are available as part of the Driving Assistance package Plus, in combination with DISTRONIC PLUS, BAS PLUS and the PRE‑SAFE® Brake. Both assistance systems are not only able to detect an unintentional lane change or vehicles in the blind spot, but can also correct the direction of travel by gentle brake intervention if the driver ignores the visual or audible danger warnings.

It's all in a name: the origins of the name "Shooting Break"

Break, or the homonym Brake, was the name once given to carriages used to "break" in wild horses and also to restrict (or "brake") their urge to move, so that they could be put to use as work horses. Since the carts could easily be broken as part of this process, people tended not to use ones which they may have urgently needed for other purposes. Where necessary, "Brakes" were often fitted out with variable bodies, which were only really used to carry along anything that may have been necessary for the hunt, for example. Any such vehicle which was used when going out shooting was called a Shooting Brake or Shooting Break. Motorised Shooting Brakes were popular in England in the 60s and 70s – exclusive two-door sports cars, which combined the luxury and style of a coupé with a larger load compartment and large tailgate

Jaguar's Intelligent Stop/Start system extended to all V6 and V8 petrol and all diesel engines across the XJ and XF ranges offering emissions and economy benefits.

2.2-litre i4 Turbodiesel now offered in 163PS and 200PS versions for XF saloon and Sportbrake models, all with CO2 emissions from 135g/km and combined fuel economy from 55.4mpg (5.1l/100km).
Both 240 and 275PS versions of the 3.0-litre V6 Turbodiesel now achieve CO2 emissions of 159g/km in the XF saloon and 159g/km in the XJ (275PS only) with combined fuel economy of 47mpg (6.0l/100km) for each installation.

The supercharged V8 petrol engine has fuel economy gains of up to 11% with emissions reductions of more than 8%, while the naturally-aspirated V8 sees economy improvements of up to 8% with emissions down by more than 6%.

Powertrain introduction
Having introduced a host of new technologies for the 2012 Model Year and following the two new highly-efficient forced induction petrol engines announced earlier in the year, Jaguar is once again broadening its global product offering and improving customer choice with its 2013MY XF and XJ ranges.

The acclaimed eight-speed ZF automatic transmission first introduced to the XF range last year to complement its smooth, powerful turbocharged diesel engines is now made standard across the entire XJ and XF range for all petrol and diesel powerplants. The eight-speed transmission is allied to Jaguar's Intelligent Stop/Start system on all turbodiesel and V6 and V8 petrol engines (market dependent).
"The engineering target in developing the 2013MY XF and XJ powertrain range was to optimise efficiency and enhance choice, while never compromising the effortless performance that is an inherent and vital characteristic in all our cars. Through intelligent use of forced induction, eight-speed transmissions and, where appropriate, Stop/Start technology, each derivative in the new XF and XJ ranges meets that enhanced efficiency goal while offering the performance thrill expected of a Jaguar." Ron Lee, Group Chief Engineer, Powertrains, Jaguar Cars

Eight-speed transmission
Following its introduction on the 2.2-litre i4 and 3.0-litre V6 Turbodiesel engines for 2012MY XF saloons, the eight-speed ZF transmission is now extended across the entire XF and XJ ranges for the 2013MY offering better economy, reduced emissions and smoother acceleration compared to the previous six-speed equipped models.

For all installations the transmission's operating software has been specifically tuned to ensure it perfectly matches the power delivery of the engines to which it is mated and offers the sporting feel, precision and smooth shifting expected of a Jaguar.

With both a wider spread of ratios and more even spacing between them, the gearbox provides more seamless acceleration both from rest and when overtaking, while fuel consumption at high speeds is reduced. Gearshifts are executed in just 200 milliseconds while driver intervention is possible through the use of steering wheel-mounted paddles which allow multiple downshifts, allowing the desired gear to be selected almost instantaneously.

The use of lightweight, compact components including a rear differential with an aluminium casing means there is no weight or packaging penalty when compared with the outgoing six-speed models, while efficiency is improved through the use of an improved pump design and greater control of the gear elements.

Offering further efficiency improvements is Jaguar's Intelligent Stop/Start system, which is now fitted - according to market - to all diesel engines and the V6 and V8 petrol units. The system is able to shut down the engine in just 300 milliseconds after the car has come to a halt, allowing for fuel consumption improvements of around 5%.

No driver intervention is necessary; a complex system of control algorithms govern when the Stop/Start should function according to a number of operational parameters including engine, ambient and cabin temperatures, whether the vehicle is fully at rest, vehicle power requirements and so on. A green 'ECO' symbol on the dashboard lights up when the engine is shut down by the system.

Having come to a halt and shut down the engine, the Intelligent Stop/Start system is able to restart smoothly in less time than it takes for the driver's foot to release the brake pedal and depress the accelerator. It does so by utilising a Twin Solenoid Starter (TSS) mechanism that features its own secondary battery to ensure that in-car systems requiring power are not affected. The unique advantage of the TSS system is that it is able to restart the engine even while it is still in its run-down phase, allowing for 'change of mind' functionality, for instance if the car is coming to a halt at a junction but then a gap in traffic appears.

2.0-litre i4 Turbocharged Petrol
Belying its compact dimensions and low weight of just 138kg, the new all-aluminium four-cylinder 2.0 i4 Ti engine has an astonishing specific output of 120PS-per-litre. It achieves this through a combination of innovative technologies which results in peak power of 240PS at 5500rpm and 340Nm of torque available between 2000 and 4000rpm.

Its low inertia turbocharger ensures smooth, lag-free power - seamlessly delivered via the eight-speed transmission - while integrating the turbine housing with the lightweight, thin-walled exhaust manifold shortens the engine and catalyst warm up times, reducing emissions. Chain-driven variable timing of both exhaust and intake valves maximises the spread of torque and optimises fuel consumption at part throttle while delivering maximum performance at high revs.

In the XF sports saloon this engine is capable of accelerating the car to 60mph in just 7.5 seconds and on to 150mph while at the same time achieving 8.9l/100km on the EU Combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 207g/km. In the all-aluminium XJ, this same engine accelerates the car to 60mph in 7.0 seconds and on to a top speed of 150mph while returning 30.4mpg (9.3l/100km) and 216g/km of CO2.

3.0-litre V6 Supercharged Petrol

Jaguar's latest supercharged petrol engine, the 3.0 V6 S/C, features new combinations of cutting-edge technology allowing it to deliver a smooth, refined and thrilling 340PS at 6500rpm and 450Nm of torque between 3500 and 5000rpm. Dual independent variable cam timing (DIVCT) and spray-guided direct injection (SGDI) is allied to new spark plug orientation that aligns the electrode precisely for enhanced combustion efficiency. These features, combined with a compression ratio of 10.5:1, optimise power, torque and economy throughout the rev range.

The latest twin-vortex Roots-type supercharger is mounted in the 'V' of the engine and features electronically managed boost control which offers operating efficiencies of up to 20%. The engine features an innovative system of counter-rotating front and rear balancer weights devised by Jaguar's engineers in order to ensure its refinement matches that of the V8.

The 3.0 V6 S/C is capable of accelerating both the XF sports saloon and XJ limousine to 60mph in 5.7 seconds and on to limited top speeds of 155mph. Both cars also return identical fuel economy figures of 30mpg (9.4l/100km) on the combined cycle and emit 224g/km of CO2.

2.2-litre i4 Turbodiesel
The highly regarded 2.2 i4 Td launched in the 2012 model year XF is now available in two forms, both of which offer a smooth, refined and muscular power delivery ideally suited to Jaguar's sporting saloon, along with reducing emissions and improving fuel economy.

The entry-level variant offers 163PS and 400Nm of torque while the higher-powered version has been uprated from 190PS to 200PS with torque remaining at 450Nm, with both versions also benefiting from engine management refinements. In the XF saloon this means emissions have been reduced to as low as 135g/km CO2, with combined fuel economy now at 55.4mpg (5.1l/100km).*
2013 Jaguar XF 28.6.2012

Both 163PS and 200PS variants of the 2.2 i4 Td are also available in the new XF Sportbrake where, thanks to aerodynamics the match of the saloon, Jaguar's most versatile model to date also boasts the same emissions and combined fuel economy figures: from 135g/km CO2 and 55.4mpg (5.1l/100km).*
*When fitted with 17-inch wheels. Figures for larger wheel sizes are 5.4l/100km | 52mpg and 139g/km of CO2

3.0-litre V6 Turbodiesel
Both the 240PS and 275PS versions of the 3.0 V6 Td fitted to the XF received the eight-speed gearbox for the 2012MY, but now also gain Intelligent Stop/Start for the 2013MY. This, coupled with recent efficiency gains implemented by Jaguar's engineers have seen the XF saloon's emissions fall to 159g/km CO2 with combined fuel economy improved to 47mpg (6.0l/100km). Corresponding figures for both versions of the engine in the XF Sportbrake are 46mpg (6.2l/100km) and 163g/km CO2.
The 275PS version of the 3.0 V6 Td fitted to the XJ also benefits from the introduction of the eight-speed gearbox and Intelligent Stop/Start technology. This has seen a reduction in CO2 emissions to 159g/km and an improvement in combined fuel economy to 47mpg (6.0l/100km), while at the same time in-gear acceleration has been improved.

5.0-litre V8 Petrol
Now in its third generation, Jaguar's powerful and charismatic 5.0 V8 petrol has won plaudits across the globe in both naturally-aspirated and supercharged variants. This all-alloy engine features a host of technologies that allow it to generate its power in a highly efficient manner, including direct injection, dual independent variable cam timing and, in the range-topping forced-induction variants, a Roots-type twin-vortex, intercooled supercharger.
2013 Jaguar XJ 28.6.2012
In the XJ flagship, both the naturally-aspirated and supercharged V8s lend the car performance that creates a new facet to its personality. This is now extended through the fitment of the eight-speed gearbox for even smoother and more impressive acceleration, while the broader spread of ratios and Intelligent Stop/Start improve economy and emissions.

The naturally-aspirated engine sees a fuel economy gain of 8% over the EU combined cycle while its emissions are reduced by more than 6%. The supercharged range-topper achieves a fuel economy improvement in excess of 6% while CO2 emissions reduce by more than 7%.

The 510PS XFR sports saloon benefits from the same combination of eight-speed automatic gearbox and Intelligent Stop/Start allowing it to offer an unrivalled blend of efficiency and excitement. The EU Combined cycle improves by 11% with its emissions reduced by more than 8%.

N.B. All quoted fuel economy figures are EU mpg and EU l/100km.

Meridian apply Psychoacoustics research and experience to produce sounds so true to life that they are perceived as real by the listener.

Meridian Trifield technology, featured on the top-of-the-range 825W Meridian Surround Sound System, delivers perfect surround sound to every occupant of the vehicle.

Meridian
The 2013 Model Year XF, XF Sportbrake and XJ mark the start of a new partnership - previewed in the flagship XJ Ultimate - for Jaguar with British audio experts Meridian. The company has been creating ultra-premium home sound systems for more than 35 years and worked closely with Jaguar's engineers to integrate this expertise seamlessly into the luxurious environs of the XJ and XF interiors.

"Our engineering teams work to exacting standards in order to create industry-leading technology, and the addition of Meridian audio systems to the 2013MY XF and XJ ranges perfectly complements those ideals. Precisely engineered for their specific installations, Meridian's systems effortlessly deliver the highest quality of audio reproduction, adding a welcome new experience for our customers." Ian Hoban, Vehicle Line Director, Jaguar Cars

The XJ and XF each offer two Meridian options. The 380W Meridian Sound System offers a 12-channel system which feeds 11 loudspeakers in the XF and 15 loudspeakers in the XJ. The top-of-the-range 825W Meridian Surround Sound System utilises 15 audio channels sending their information to 17 loudspeakers in the XF and 20 in the XJ.

Meridian has pioneered a number of technologies that deliver sound reproduction that is second to none and has won plaudits worldwide. The company considers the vehicle cabin environment as a unique opportunity to create and engineer audio solutions, making Meridian the ideal audio partner. Unlike other manufacturers which test their systems against competitors, Meridian benchmarks the fidelity of their audio reproduction against the original source of the sound itself, whether a real instrument such as a Steinway piano or a professional singer.

The basis of the Meridian philosophy is perfectly matching speakers and amplifiers, achieving premium sound quality without large power demands and avoiding overwhelming listeners with high volume. Meridian worked closely with both Jaguar and its suppliers to ensure that speaker construction utilises the latest techniques and materials and that they are perfectly placed within the cabin.
Meridian's proprietary Digital Signal Processing optimises the relationship between amplifier and speakers, with each receiving its own dedicated signal to achieve clear, distortion-free sound. The result is a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) - the measure of accuracy of sound reproduction - of just 0.2% which is 50 times greater than the outgoing systems. By comparison, a THD of less than 1% is regarded as inaudible to the human ear.

To optimise their sound systems to an automotive application in which the audio environment can change rapidly, Meridian refined their proprietary technologies and innovations specifically for automotive audio.

The two range-topping Meridian Surround Sound Systems feature the company's proprietary Trifield technology which creates an all-enveloping sound field, placing each listener at the centre of their own exclusive music experience, no matter where they are seated.

In order to account for resonances that occur within a vehicle, the company created a detailed acoustic analysis of both models' interiors to identify resonances and apply bespoke digital filters - Meridian Cabin Correction - to maximise definition.

The Meridian audio systems accept a number of digital inputs such as MP3 players, CDs, TV tuners, DAB radio and USB interfaces. As such, it was important that every source be accurately converted to maintain sound quality. Meridian's Digital Dither Shaping seamlessly processes each digital input to maximise detail and quality whatever the source media.

Dynamic Volume Control is also incorporated, which monitors extraneous noise levels within the cabin and smoothly and unobtrusively alters the system volume to account, for example, for an opened window or a rough road surface.

AT-A-GLANCE
Infotainment system updates enhance the audio and navigation interfaces and usability.
Suspension enhancements to the XJ further optimise passenger comfort.

Infotainment upgrades

The intuitive, Jaguar Touchscreen infotainment system integrated into the XF and XJ receives an update for the 2013 model year, extending a number of its entertainment, navigation and connectivity functions.

Both the optional TV tuner and DAB receiver are upgraded with the former now capable of receiving both Mpeg4 as well as Mpeg2 encoded transmissions, dependent on market. The updated DAB system can now also receive the more efficient DAB+ signals and the new Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) standard. Upgrades have also enhanced the browsing functionality of the iPod interface.

The satellite-navigation system also offers a number of new features that extend its capabilities and user-friendliness. An important new addition is the 'ECO Route' option that optimises the roads used on a journey to minimise both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Making full use of the clarity of the central Touchscreen, the Dynamic Zoom feature automatically zooms in when the car approaches a junction, both on the motorway and more minor roads to make the upcoming route more obvious. Similarly, Visual Lane Guidance makes use of the split-screen function to highlight the route when the driver approaches a junction where directional arrows are painted on the road surface. Lastly, when the caris on a motorway, overhead sign information is duplicated within the satellite-navigation display.

In order to increase the usefulness of the navigation still further, Jaguar has developed a number of new features. The 'Avoid Area' function is now extended to the Stored Locations sub-menu to allow the system to remember it for future journeys, the area itself can be programmed using a variety of destination entry methods and the size of it can be decided by the driver. The Traffic Messaging Channel (TMC) information now has a repeat function to allow the driver to make an informed decision about rerouting around delays.

The Points of Interest (POI) feature can be extended by downloading POIs from the internet and then stored on the in-car system via a USB memory stick. Additional enhancements to the infotainment system include Arabic route guidance, a Russian module added to the 'Say What You See' voice activation function and a full onscreen QWERTY keyboard for the search function on a paired phone.
XJ suspension enhancements

For the 2013MY, Jaguar has continued to improve suspension refinement and performance. All models in the range benefit from recalibrated spring and damper tunes offering enhanced ride isolation and occupant comfort on all road surfaces, with no impact on the model's acclaimed dynamic ability. The new suspension tune was first introduced on the range-topping XJ Ultimate.

Rosso In Giallo - Ferrari FF by Novitec Rosso

Exclusive NOVITEC ROSSO upgrade for the new Ferrari FF
Carbon-fiber aerodynamic-enhancement kit, ultra-light forged wheels and an extra 42 hp

Exclusive refinement for the new Ferrari FF: NOVITEC ROSSO, global leader in tuning for the sports cars from Maranello, offers extensive upgrades for the first all-wheel-drive Grand Tourismo from the Italian manufactory. The sophisticated program comprises strikingly styled and aerodynamically efficient carbon-fiber bodywork components. But that's not all: Ultra-light forged wheels with diameters of 21 and 22 inches are also part of the portfolio as is a performance kit that boosts power output of the V12 engine by 42 hp / 30.9 kW, various versions of high-performance exhaust systems and custom interior options.
Ferrari FF by Novitec Rosso 19.06.2012
More striking visually and even more aerodynamically efficient: The NOVITEC ROSSO bodywork components fine-tuned in the wind tunnel are made from lightweight yet high-strength carbon fiber and lend the four-seater an even more dynamic appearance.

The front spoiler lip for the production bumper gives the Ferrari FF an even lower stance and reduces lift on the front axle. To achieve an optimal aerodynamic balance NOVITEC ROSSO equips the rear section with a combination of roof and rear spoiler plus a diffuser. The rear end is further modified with an add-on component for the production fascia and carbon-fiber surrounds for the black NOVITEC ROSSO taillights. NOVITEC ROSSO also offers the matching black side markers and LED rear fog lamps.

Thanks to the NOVITEC ROSSO side skirts and carbon-fiber trim for the exterior mirrors the Ferrari looks even sportier when viewed from the side. Carbon-fiber roof cladding and a carbon-fiber radiator grille add even more racing-flair highlights.

Another specialty for the Ferrari FF distinctive to NOVITEC ROSSO is the ensemble of black taillights, side markers and LED rear fog lamps.

The NOVITEC ROSSO suspension engineers have developed custom-tailored, particularly lightweight forged wheels specifically for the Ferrari FF. The NF4 wheel design with five delicate double spokes is mounted on the all-wheel-drive car in a staggered combination with 21-inch diameter in front and 22 inches on the rear axle to further emphasize the wedge-shaped appearance.

The size 9Jx21 wheels on the front axle weigh just 9.9 kilos and are mounted with Pirelli PZero high-performance tires in size 255/30 ZR 21. The size 12Jx22 rear wheels weigh in at just 13.5 kilos. Mounted with size 315/25 ZR 22 tires they provide optimal traction and thanks to the reduced unsprung weight deliver sporty, safe handling. Also contributing to this effect is the further lowered center of gravity resulting from the installation of the NOVITEC ROSSO sport springs.

All this makes the Ferrari FF perfectly suited for even more power: The NOVITEC ROSSO engine specialists have developed a performance kit that boosts power output of the 6.3-liter 12-cylinder four-valve engine by an extra 42 hp / 30.9 kW.

The conversion consists of newly calibrated engine electronics and a complete NOVITEC ROSSO stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system. The exhaust is also available in a version that features a butterfly valve actuated from the steering wheel. In combination with the quad sport exhaust the custom-programmed mapping for ignition and injection plus a new higher redline speed of 8,200 rpm result in a performance boost to 702 hp / 516.6 kW at 8,200 rpm.
Ferrari FF by Novitec Rosso 19.06.2012
After the conversion the V12 delivers even crisper throttle response and further improved road performance. The higher engine cut-off speed permits a new top speed of 340 km/h, five km/h faster than the production car.

For even quicker and more precise gear shifts NOVITEC ROSSO offers longer carbon-fiber shift paddles to operate the seven speeds of the dual-clutch transmission of the Ferrari FF.

NOVITEC ROSSO also offers a maximum level of individuality for the four-seat interior. The program provides countless options from carbon-fiber scuff plates to fully custom leather and Alcantara interiors perfectly finished down to the last detail in any desired color and upholstery design.
